8 Months

Little Man is 8 months old, as of Wednesday. We can't believe it!

No teeth, but we're plugging along with pureed solids just fine. His hair is coming in more and more each day, we may have to get a trim before Christmas! It is getting long around the ears again.

No crawling yet, but he is lunging...which makes taking these pictures a little bit more precarious!

Buddies

Little Man has a friend, we'll call him JR. They are only a couple of months apart in age, so as they grow the gap will shrink and I can't wait!

They are going to be so much fun together.

Lucky for us, we adore his parents and are looking forward to many years of play dates, sporting events, and general little boy mischief!

Gobbler IV

We joined some friends for Thanksgiving, the fourth (I think) that they've hosted at their house, hence "Gobbler IV."

They have an 11 month old daughter who is crawling around, pulling up, and just standing up all over the place! It was a little disconcerting to see how mobile she is, and that she is only a few months ahead of Little Man.

We were a little late, but they had built in some wine and cheese time so dinner went off on schedule. Of course, LM decided he needed to eat right around the time that we sat down to eat, but that is life with a little one!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know we did!

Turkey Trot

The training didn't really happen...but I managed to pull it off anyway! I'm proud to say that I ran most of the race, walked a bit in the middle, my guess is about half a mile.

Coming up the hill, almost to the first mile marker

It was a lot more fun than I expected, so now I'm on the hunt for my next 5k and someone to run it with me! I started out with my neighbor and her friend, but they were planning to walk so I lost them after about the first half mile. Then two of my friends and their dogs caught up to me, but they only stuck with me for about a quarter mile because they are supper fast triathletes and there was no way I could keep up with their pace. Finally, another one of my friends skipped ahead and caught up to me and we ran for a while longer.

Yes, that is an old lady in front of us.

I don't think I'm going to start running all of the time, and I don't think I want to run much farther than 3.1 miles (maybe up to 5?) but at least now I know that I can do a 5k and be happy about it!

This is us passing the old lady. Boo-yeah.

Little Man was along for the ride and stayed awake the entire time - I think that is due to the number of people and dogs to watch.

We finished! Yay!

Roosevelt Island

Between Virginia and DC, in the middle of the Potomac River, sits a small island. Frank and I couldn't decide if it was in VA or DC, but we decided it doesn't matter anyway since it is federal land.

Theodore Roosevelt Island is a living memorial to the conservationist President. There is large statue of him in the midst of a few fountains and pillars with his quotes.

The woods on the island are pretty dense, but the foot paths are wide. On occasion we've seen wildlife, but the day we went it was too cold for critters.

Well, some critters. Hamilton came with us, he didn't seem to mind the cold.

Such a fun little adventure, right outside our doorstep! I highly recommend it, and while we've seen strollers there I would suggest using a carrier - the terrain is uneven and there are plenty of muddy areas...I'd hate to try to clean off a stroller after a jaunt around the island.

Strug-a-ling

We had a loooong night last night. It started off well enough with a visit from an old friend, a quick trip to the Fall Festival at church, and a yummy dinner from the Italian Store.

Then, things started to go south.

We didn't start the diaper laundry until late.
Little Man got fussy early and fell asleep without eating as much as usual.
1am snuck up on us and we got to bed late.
2:30am Little Man woke up furious and seemingly inconsolable.
By 3am I'd done everything I could think of and he was still upset

Somewhere in there, Hamilton was a jerk with the crying and barking at inappropriate times and the needing to go outside.

Also somewhere in there, Super Husband (aka Frank) came to the rescue and was able to sing LM back to sleep after he ate.

I am draaaaaaaagging today. I'm hoping everyone else is tired too, so we can all go to bed on time and sleep through the night. Until then, I'll continue to try to keep my head from hitting the keyboard...I picked a great week to try to cut back on my caffeine consumption.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, from our little turtle man!

This is his first Halloween, and I made his costume!

As I put it on him, I realized that I forgot to cuff the pants...but he didn't complain.

We love our little turtle!
