3 Years

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband, Frank! Three years ago today we were married in Alexandria, VA.

Sometimes I can't believe it has been only three years, and other times I simply can't seem to remember what life was like before I was Mrs. Webb.

Thanks for choosing me, I'm oh so grateful that you did!

Something about Cherryblossoms

I can't tell you why, and I promise it isn't on purpose, but for some reason Frank and I plan major life events that are set to coincide with the first day of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

Three years ago we were married on March 29th - the same day that the 2008 Festival kicked off.

This year, the festival kicks off on March 26th, my due date.

Maybe in three years we'll close on a house on March 29th, which should be the first day of the 2014 Cherry Blossom Festival.

I guess for now I'll hope that kiddo comes a little early and perhaps I can make it out to the tidal basin while the blossoms are still out. (because every good DC Metro area resident knows you don't go into the city at very beginning of the festival - too many tourists!)

Happy Anniversary!

"In case something exciting happens" turns 1 today! I can't believe it has been a year, and I can't believe I still have stuff to talk about.

Exciting things that happened in the last 365 days: (in no particular order)

-Frank graduated from law school

-Frank took the Bar Exam

-We got a second dog

-We moved back to Arlington

-We traveled a lot

-Friends got married

-Friends had babies

-I finished grad school

-I cut off a foot of hair to donate to a great cause

-and I "redecorated" the house a million times

Thanks for sticking around through it all!

I'm Excited About: T-shirt Quilt Update Edition

Here is the long awaited update on the t-shirt quilt I'm making for Frank! I am 98% finished with the front of the quilt - I need to add the border to the top and bottom and then the front is 100% finished and I can move on to adding the back, the filling, and the quilting.

Here are all of the squares laid out on the floor from a few weeks ago. The order changed a bit in the final draft...

And here it is with the navy border and all in one piece!

It is hanging in the basement, please ignore the parts where the lines don't line up quite right. Frank says he doesn't mind, so I'm trying to just let it go.

The theme is mostly Dartmouth with a little Red Sox thrown in for good measure. There are a few other classics in there, too.

We're off to the fabric store today to find a suitable backing. Something soft and warm, but not so stretchy that I end up burning the entire project due to the endless frustration.

I'll update again when it is totally complete - hopefully before the end of May!

Cotton Anniversary

Monday, March 29th was our 2nd anniversary, which, according to tradition, is the "cotton" anniversary.

Frank gave me a beautiful bathrobe (exactly what I wanted), and I decided I would start making his t-shirt quilt. I know you should have the gift ready for the occasion, and I'm usually a big stickler for that...but I failed. Luckily, my husband is a pretty cool dude and he is happy to accept the gift at a slightly delayed date.

Here is what I have so far:

In case you aren't sure what you're looking at...you're looking at 20 t-shirt squares all cut to approximately the same size. They all have iron-on interfacing on the back which is what will save me from wanting to kill people later. If anyone reading this has ever tried to sew with knit, you know what I'm talking about.

I purchased navy cotton to be the borders between all of the shirts - we're still undecided on what the back/underside will be.

Here's hoping this gets done as quickly as I'd like. I need to have time to come up with something for next year!

Spring Means

1. Baseball - The Webb family celebrates baseball the way that America's Favorite Past Time deserves to be celebrated. We go to games, we watch as many games on TV as we can, sometimes we even plan vacations to include a visit to new (to us) parks. According to MLB.com, there are 7 days until Opening Day - a national holiday if you ask us.

2. Cleaning - (sorry, Mom) but I love spring cleaning. For us it includes shifting our wardrobes, getting rid of things we didn't wear, organizing closets, cleaning floors, opening windows, and a few trips to Goodwill to drop off our excess 'stuff.'

3. Gardening - I have my humble window boxes and soon I'm hoping to have a plan for them. They will either be in a window, on a stand, or possible transferred into straw bales (crazy idea, if it pans out I'll be sure to document it). This year, gardening will also include 'lawn care.' Frank has decided to put some effort into our lawns so that we don't end up with dust and mud like so many others. Lucky for us, Hamilton isn't into digging or running with enough speed to tear up grass. That will make lawn care easier, and worth it.

4. Sunshine - Frank and Hamilton already make good use of our back yard and patio areas. I'm looking forward to spending more time out there in the sunshine. We're hoping to add a grill and maybe even a furniture set so we can dine al fresco when the temperature allows. I also love that we've already done the 'spring forward' bit so the sun stays out longer, making it more fun to have friends over for impromptu back yard happy hours.

5. Celebrations - our anniversary, Easter, and my birthday are all spring time events in our house. Such a treat!

I love spring time! It is such an exciting thing to celebrate, especially following the long, cold winter we had this year.

I'm Excited About: Terra Cotta Warriors, Finally!, Edition

Frank and I are going to National Geographic this evening to see the Terra Cotta Warrior exhibit! We've been trying to see this exhibit since December and the day is finally here.

In December we got snowed out. First, they moved our tickets to a Sunday, but the snow was so intense (Snowpocalypse 2k9) that our tickets were later canceled altogether.

After some minor issues with their online ticketing service last month, I ordered 5 sets of tickets for this evening. I eventually got someone on the phone to cancel 4 of the sets and confirm our other set of tickets. I also just heard that we may get flurries tonight. Not cool.

Tonight is also the kick off for our anniversary weekend! As of this coming Monday, Frank and I will have been married for 2 years. That seems impossible! I still feel like our wedding was only a few months ago. Although, I guess when you start ticking off all of the things we've done since March 2008 it starts to make more sense.

Happy anniversary, Frank! Thanks for choosing me!
