Movin' on Up

Little Man is getting too big for his infant swing, and I'm tired of him just layin' around all day. He does tummy time and has play time on his back, but I decided it was time to find a way to have him upright without being held.

Enter the jumper!

He isn't jumping yet, but he does seem to be aware of his movements. He leans forward, using his arms to hold his head up, and kicks his feet now and then. Little Man's ever watchful guard-dog, Hamilton, was quite interested.

I think he likes it! And I like that he isn't just laying on his back all day! He looks so tiny in it right now, but give it a couple of months and he'll be filling it out, and I won't be able to get a good picture because he'll be bouncing so much.

A little more head control and we'll put away the swing and replace it with his stationary jumper/play saucer. So fun!

Back to Work

I have to go back to work soon, and I'll be honest, I'd do just about anything to not go.

Unfortunately, the choices Frank and I have made about where to live (the region, not our house) have made my maintaining a job nonnegotiable right now. I'm trying to be as positive about it as I can be, but I'll be the first to admit that I don't think I'm doing a very good job.

My focus now is to enjoy my days with Little Man, look forward to after work and weekends, and trust that the Lord knows what he is doing and I wouldn't be going back to work if it weren't the best thing for my family.

You know what is super exciting, though? My husband. He is working his tail off for us and doing it all with the goal of glorifying God through his work. So, we'll keep praying and we'll keep working and maybe (please?) someday soon I can say adios to my 9-5.

Workin' Out

Turns out that when you gain 46lbs during pregnancy, it doesn't all just fall off two weeks later. Who knew?

My original plan was to register for and run a half marathon this fall. Once I finally got out for a run, I remembered how very much I do not enjoy running for long periods of time. I decided that I would find another way, rather than torture myself for the next 6 months with a work out that I despise.

Work out plan, take 2. Enter Jillian Michaels and the 30 Day Shred. This plan was much more feasible, and timely! With my brother's wedding coming up at the end of the month, I needed a way to get as toned up as possible, as quickly as possible, with as little time committed as possible. I'd say that a 20 minute video that is completely kicking my tail is just what the doctor ordered!

My favorite things about the work out are:
-it is quick
-it is hard, and after 15 days isn't any easier
-it offers 'low impact' options for some moves (nice for someone with a recovering abdomen whose bladder might not be exactly where it is supposed to be yet)
-I think it is producing results

I'm certainly enjoying the process, and would recommend the system to anyone else looking for a quick, simple way to shed some pounds and tone up some muscle. It is easy to commit to, but not easy to accomplish.

Truckeroo

We went to Truckeroo last night! Turns out that during the summer, there is a monthly food truck gathering down by Nationals Park. A friend of ours posted something about it and we decided to check it out.

We originally planned to go for lunch, but the husbands decided that they wanted to come, too, so lunch became dinner. It worked out so well to do dinner! We managed to get there by about 6pm, thereby beating the crowds and getting seats at a table.

Frank and our two friends all got in line at the lobster truck and had lobster rolls. They all raved about them, so I suppose that is good. I, personally, am not a fan of lobster rolls - between the lobster being cold and the addition of mayonnaise, it just isn't my favorite. I had a buffalo chicken wrap (shocking, I know) that was tasty and not at all messy!

Then there was pie. Apple Caramel Crumb and Strawberry/Rhubarb - both tasty, but not entirely earth shattering. This lead my friend and I to decide to open our own pie business in Arlington. I think there is some major opportunity there, but I won't say more because I don't want to give away our awesome business plan. :)

Henry made the trip in the Ergo, sleeping about half of the time and just looking around the other half.

All in all, a very successful outing and one we hope to attempt again next month! Truckeroo!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for coos and smiles. Little Man started to smile at me a couple of weeks ago, but now it is a regular thing and I cannot get enough of it! He also coos at us, usually in the mornings and early evening.

Of course, with the cooing comes the other 'discovering my voice' noises so we get the occasional shriek or shout, but they are cute too so we don't really mind.

I love watching him learn to communicate!
