Dogs? What dogs?
We still have dogs, right?
I'm kidding! Of course we still have the dogs, and we love them very much (except for when Rutledge chews on stuff...then it is questionable).
The hounds are happy and healthy and are adjusting to life with a baby quite well. They tend to leave him be, but are pretty interested in his stuff. Seems that my diaper bag and LM's car seat are the favorite targets so far.
As we've suddenly entered the dog days of summer - a bit prematurely, especially considering that winter lasted most of way through April - they are happy just to get to take a nap in the AC after spending a morning outside.
We love you hounds, we just wish you didn't smell quite so bad.

Two Months
Little Man is two months old today. Hard to believe that it has already been that long, but at the same time we're starting to have trouble remembering what it was like before he got here!
Keep it up, LM!

Honda Love
I have a Honda again! We are happy owners of a '99 Accord and I couldn't be happier.
Caroline was my first car, a '93 Accord with 180k miles on her when she became mine. I had her until around 250k miles when thee fan belt went. I traded her in and got a brand new Saturn.
I had dreams about driving Caroline for years after that. I liked my Saturn, Nancy, but I always regretted giving up Caroline.
Now I'm back in Honda heaven with our new addition. The question is, what should I name her?
She is a '99, black w grey fabric interior, 5-speed with a bike rack on top.
So happy!!

Thankful Thursday
I am thankful for our son. He has made my new role a joy with very few hiccups! Little Man jumped onto the schedule bandwagon from the moment it was introduced! He is happy to eat on a schedule, and before I could implement it he created his own nap schedule to accompany the eating schedule!
Thanks to his willingness to sleep (got that from me) and eat on a schedule, we are within days of sleeping through the night! This week he has come within an hour of 6am more than once, and frankly, 5:30am is just fine with me when we're talking about the final feeding being at 10pm (that, of course, preceded by his self-scheduled 8:30pm nap/sleep time).
So really, he gets up for the day around 6am and puts himself to bed at 8:30 only to be awakened by me at 10 and then going right back to sleep.
Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayers and sending me a child that exceeds all of my hopes and dreams, and who turns my fears into joy!

Diapers
Ok, I'm really doing this. I'm waiting for one more shipment of diapers and then we'll be off and running in the world of cloth diapering!
I'm a little nervous, but I think that is only because I haven't done it yet. I suppose scenes like this will be totally commonplace in our house within the week!

Mother's Day Weekend
This was my first Mother's Day and it was great! I heard from lots of friends and family, got a sweet card from my husband and son, and did lots of fun stuff on Saturday and Sunday!
Saturday began with a Mother's Day weekend treat for me, breakfast at Bob & Edith's Diner! We strapped LM to Frank with the Moby and walked down to Columbia Pike. The breakfast was tasty and it was fun to be out with my two men! The rest of the morning was spent doing something I love...cleaning, reorganizing, and moving furniture! My wonderful husband, who knows that accomplishing tasks makes me happy, happily assisted me with the various projects.
After getting good and gross, we decided to clean up and attend a Derby party at our friend Anna's apartment. I'm SO glad we went! It was nice go get out and socialize, and with Little Man being as easy going as he is he was a dream the entire time (he mostly slept, per his self-ascribed nap schedule). I don't have a hat, and keep meaning to get one...maybe by next year!
Saturday night was the first time that he almost made it through the night, but that meant lots of waking up to squirm and fuss, which means lots of awake time for me as I gage the situation and decide if he really needed me or not (usually it was not).
Sunday included a little more moving/organizing, then we took another long walk to meet an old friend for lunch. We plopped LM into the Bob (our first Bob outing!), leashed up the hounds, and took off on the 1.3 mile walk to Baja Fresh. It is a nice distance and it was a perfect day for a walk, warm enough without being hot and slightly overcast.
Waiting for us at Baja was my friend, Elizabeth! We grew up next door to each other in SC, and lived together one summer in Chapel Hill after college. We don't get to see each other often as she is in Atlanta, so it was a great treat to get to have lunch with her while she was in town! We also got to meet her boyfriend (finally!) that I've been hearing about for years now! I will say, he lived up to the hype - AND no one ever mentioned that he works for chick-fil-a...that is what Frank calls "burying the lead"!
It was so fun to visit with them, and I'm glad that they got to meet LM when he is still so little. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get to see them again this summer when we go to SC!
We walked back home and ended the day with a few episodes of Cheers (we're watching the entire series on Netflix - I LOVE Coach!). All in all, a great weekend thanks to LM, Frank, and my awesome friends!
I hope all of you other moms had a great weekend, too!

The Nursery
The nursery is coming along. Since we thought we'd be moving at the end of April, I didn't put my time into creating a nursery for Little Man. Now that we know we're staying for two more years I'm trying to get it all together before I have to go back to work!
The owl fabric is still the main motif, though I think I'm doing a pretty good job of not letting it overwhelm the space.
Mom and Patrick painted the four owls for Little Man, and they are now hung on the wall! We also have his pennants up along the top of three walls, and the fourth wall will soon be adorned with his monogram.
We bought a dresser for him, and so our final big piece is the crib. After a little more shuffling, I'll be ready for the big reveal - and relieved to have everything finished!
I'm still proud of myself for managing to keep the cost of his room down. We used a lot of things we already had, did some bargain hunting, and kept it simple. Go us!

Interns
DC has more than its share of interns. Frank has been noticing that he could really use an intern/clerk/administrative assistant type person around the office to help with scheduling, organization, research, etc.
I thought I knew just the person!
His qualifications are a bit lacking, and he did bring his mom to the interview...but his upsides are that he has LOADS of free time and can learn at an incredible rate!
